If you are interested in a highly fulfilling career helping people every day, firefighting could be for you. Today’s firefighters are expected to have expertise in a vast array of subjects. Through the LaPorte County Career & Technical Education Fire Science program you will learn many of the diverse skills needed to be a modern firefighter. With an academically rigorous curriculum and the ongoing practice of active hands-on skills, you will gain the foundation for how to “save lives and protect property.” Upon completion of the LPCCTE Fire Science program, you will have had the opportunity to gain the following certifications: AED/CPR, IDHS HazMat Awareness, IDHS HazMat Operations, IDHS Firefighter 1, and possibly IDHS Firefighter II. Along with these certifications, you will also have had the opportunity to earn up to 15 college credit hours from Ivy Tech.
